This is an individual, self-guided itinerary with opening dates that can be customized.

This itinerary is great for first time travelers in Costa Rica, and gives you the opportunity to witness a variety of destinations, to experience an amazing adventure and to visit national parks, rain forests, beaches and volcanoes.

Itinerary

6 nights / 7 days full of a bit of everything!

 

1 night in Monteverde Hotel Tina's Casitas

2 nights in La Fortuna Hotel Villa Vista

1 night in Tortuguero Hotel Monkey Lodge

2 nights in Puerto Viejo Hotel Monte Sol

1 night in San Jose Hotel Costa Rica Guest House

Day 1: San Jose / Monteverde

In the morning you will make your way to Monteverde by local bus ($8 approximately)

Free afternoon. 

At sunset,  enjoy a walk of 2 hours through the forest that will allow you to learn more about the nocturnal wildlife.

Day 2 Monteverde / La Fortuna

In the morning you will get your adrenaline pumping with the canopy tour ! While learning about nature, you will also live a great adventure going from tree to tree !

Early in the afternoon a shuttle will pick you up at your Hotel and will take you to Arenal’s lake where a boat will be waiting for you. You will cross the lake and enjoy spectacular views of the volcano. On the other side of the lake, another shuttle will pick you up and will bring you to your Hotel in La Fortuna.

Day 3: La Fortuna

Suggestion for your free morning

Take a taxi ($5 approximately) to visit La Fortuna Waterfalls ($10 per person for park entrance)

Excursion in the afternoon

You will take a guided nature walk through the jungle over a hanging bridge to a waterfall that you can jump off of and swim in. You will then visit the Arenal Volcano Observatory Lodge to enjoy the panoramic views of the Volcano and its lake.

In the evening, you will go to the Baldi Hot Springs where you will able to relax and enjoy their many pools in an idyllic setting.

The half day tour includes roundtrip transportation, bilingual guide,  all entrance fees and dinner.

Day 4: La Fortuna / Tortuguero

You will be leaving La Fortuna early in the morning to discover the wonderful canals of Tortuguero, which is full of spectacular nature and wildlife.

On the way to Tortuguero you will stop at a banana plantation.Then you will take a boat ride through the water canals to reach Tortuguero. Here you will begin your adventure in Tortuguero National Park.

This overnight trip includes the roundtrip transportation, bilingual guide and all meals.

Day 5: Tortuguero / Puerto Viejo

Enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet to start your day. After another boat trip in the canals, you will embark on a guided walk into the jungle trails of the Tortuguero National Park. You will then enjoy a delicious lunch. Afterwards you will be on your way to Puerto Viejo, famous for being the “little Jamaica” of the Caribbean coast.

Day 6: Puerto Viejo

Free day on the beach !

Suggestion:

- You can rent a bike (about $8) to go to Manzanillo. On the road you will be able to enjoy the beauty of Cocles, Punta Uva and Arrecife beaches.

- You can also take the local bus to go to Bribri where an indigenous community lives and have some fun at the waterfall.

Night in Puerto Viejo.

 

 

Day 7: Puerto Viejo / San Jose

A shuttle will pick you up and take you to the Pacuare river for a rafting trip ! A great experience that combines adventure and adrenaline, everyone can do it! The Pacuare River is listed as one of the top 5 rivers on the planet by National Geographic.

It is secluded area, ideal to disconnect from the stress of urban life and you wil feel connected to nature.

At the end of the afternoon you will be dropped off at your hotel in San José.

The full day trip includes roundtrip transportation, bilingual guide, breakfast and lunch.
